  29.     The problem is that "fractal" image compression algorithms are seldom
  30. symmetrical: They take MUCH longer to compress than decompress! In fact,
  31. there's an old joke that the best "fractal" compression algorithm is the
  32. "graduate student in a closet" routine."
  33.  
  34.     The other problem is that there are other algorithms available that are
  35. faster, compress tighter, and are less lossy. One that looks promising is
  36. "wavelet compression. Wavelet theory seems to be taking the scientific
  37. communitty by storm, not unlike Chaos theory and Catastrophy Theory a few
  38. years ago....
